The servant boy, a minor, in a middle-class household dies mysteriously, locked in a kitchen. The happy contented family, a young couple and a child, is thrown into a psychological trauma revealing diverse shades of complexities of life in a given situation. Police enquiries, post-mortem, inquisitive neighbourhood, legal hassles coupled with the coming of the servant's father from the village add up to a claustrophobic nightmare. In order to save their face and skin the young couple and the family of the landlord behave clumsily and end up by accusing one another. The post-mortem report detects carbon-monoxide poisoning and, therefore, nobody's fault. The case is thus closed but the interior crisis deepens。1983年戛纳影展评审团奖(非评审团大奖)
