Almost twenty years after Ludwig Berger's"Walzerkrieg", Wohlbrück again plays waltz composer Johann Strauss in this film by Emile Edwin Reinert. Although the film starts with a brief modern day sequence, the major part is a loving recreation of the mid 19th century world of Austria. This is not a very plot-driven film, but it shows us important moments in Strauss' career: his composition of a new form of waltz which initially disturbs his audience; his love affair with the girl Millie (Marte Harell) for whom he leaves his wife and family; finally his jealousy of his son, whose success eclipses his own.
