La Hija del Ministro (Daughter of the Minister) was one of the more successful Argentine films of 1943. Enrique Serrano stars as the minister of Social Legislation in a mythical South American country, taking the job reluctantly at the insistence of his status-seeking daughter (Silvana Roth). When Serrano is targeted for persecution by a liberal politician (Juan Carlos Thorry), Serrano's daughter disguises herself as a humble working girl, the better to force Thorry to trip himself up. Instead, romance blossoms between the girl and the politico. Heavy on music but light on genuine satire, La Hija del Ministro was ideal escapist entertainment.
