Suffering from an unknown illness, Amor returns home from the city, but the village doctors are at a loss for what to do. At the same time, the livestock of the village falls to death and eventually people as well. A witch doctor diagnoses her illness as not a disease but a curse—a curse that transforms human beings into Yanggaw, a monster who lives on human flesh and blood. Based on the Yanggaw myth from the Philippines, the film doesn’t deal with the usual genre elements like the progress or cure of the curse, but concentrates on the distrust and indiscriminate violence which devours the village after Yanggaw sneaks in. As a victim as well as a predator, it evokes terror by making human beings look helplessly on the gradual breakdown of humanity. This unique horror film pursues the influence of terror rather than the origin of it.
