Del Mero Corazon is not so much a documentary about Chicano music as a chronological and geographical panorama of songs. It ranges in time from the early part of this century up to the present day. and in place from northern Mexico to Texas then westward to California (and symbolically to all parts to the US where these are Mexican people, linked by this music to their homeland), The songs in the film all deal with iove in its many aspects: romantic, realistic, raunchy, poigant and proud. Featured musicans indlude Andres Berlanga, Leo Garza, Chavela Ortiz of Brown Express and Little Joe y la Familia, While there is no narration, the theme of each song is introduced by an appropriate saying or selection of poetry.
