The film's structure is quite similar to that of Orson Welles' CITIZEN KANE. The plot focuses on a missing girl who is never found and does not appear in the film a single time. A reporter gradually learns about her fate from the testimonies of a number of rural residents. It is they, uprooted and deprived of their homes, who become the film's collective protagonist.
